Exploring the Applications and Capabilities of BIM Collaborative Platforms

The BIM collaborative platform plays a crucial role in integrating project data, yet there are relatively few articles discussing its application in the market. Today, the author will briefly introduce the practical uses of the BIM collaborative platform and what it can accomplish.

Clicking on the Equipment Object

When field personnel detect abnormalities in equipment during inspections, they can use the BIM model to locate and select the specific equipment object. For example, selecting an equipment object in Navisworks will automatically display its information. However, Navisworks alone does not provide access to more detailed device data, such as notification records or related file archives. This is why the BIM collaborative platform is essential for subsequent tasks.

Accessing Equipment Information

Through the BIM collaborative platform, operators can retrieve detailed device data via the platform interface. By pressing the capture device data button, the platform automatically obtains the selected device’s information through an API and stores it within the system. Using the device object number, the platform can then pull up relevant files and historical data from its database.

Viewing Related Files

In the “Related Files” tab, operators can access documents associated with the equipment, such as maintenance manuals. If needed, operators can upload additional files through the interface on this tab. Uploaded documents are stored on the network server, allowing other users of the BIM collaborative platform to access and reference them as necessary.

Reviewing Historical Records

Traditionally, accessing an equipment’s maintenance history required sifting through physical paperwork, which is time-consuming. With the integration of the BIM collaborative platform, operators can quickly view past maintenance reports and the processing status under the “History” tab. This allows them to understand previous maintenance activities and assess potential equipment issues efficiently.

Selecting Issue Resolution Options

In the “Report Status” tab, inspections are treated as mobile tasks. To reduce time spent on data entry, most fields in the form are auto-filled by the system, including equipment number, inspector name, and report time. Operators simply select the equipment status from a dropdown menu and submit any problems to the platform database, streamlining the reporting process.

By following this workflow, inspection personnel can efficiently carry out their tasks using the BIM collaborative platform in conjunction with the BIM model. This approach simplifies integrating inspection results with BIM model objects. That concludes our overview of the applications and capabilities of the BIM collaborative platform. I hope this article has been helpful to everyone!
