The Dunhuang Tourism Distribution Center is situated on the south side of Yangguan Avenue, the main urban artery of Dunhuang City in Gansu Province. Serving as a key entry point, it acts as the official “gateway (BIM)” to Dunhuang tourism.

The design thoughtfully reflects its desert location by harmonizing with the surrounding sand dunes. The interconnected buildings share the sandy color palette, and the roofs gently slope to mimic the dunes’ natural contours. This approach creates an inviting environment that encourages tourists to stop, rest, and experience the site.

The main structure is divided into four interconnected blocks, each serving distinct functions: comprehensive services, office logistics, specialty dining, and tourism displays. The semi-enclosed community layout warmly welcomes visitors. The earthy yellow stone facade reflects local architectural styles, with thick stone walls punctuated by openings that cast sharp geometric shadows in sunlight.

Inside, the spatial design draws inspiration from the Mogao Caves, creating a cave-like atmosphere. During the hot summer months, visitors find relief in the large, shaded space formed by the expansive roof and thick walls. The interplay of sunlight filtering through creates an immersive experience that evokes the feeling of being inside a cave. This design metaphor not only responds to the local natural environment but also recreates the physical and cultural essence of the Mogao Caves, ultimately embodying the spirit of Dunhuang.
