BIM Software Tip: How to Handle a Damaged Revit Data File
When working with files, Revit may sometimes display an error message indicating that the data file is corrupted. Here are several steps you can try, in order, to resolve this issue:
1. Check the available space on your C drive
Ensure your computer’s hard drive has enough free space—ideally at least 5 GB. If there isn’t sufficient space, Revit won’t be able to expand the project into the temporary directory.
Locate the Temp (temporary) directory:
- Press the Windows key + E to open File Explorer.
- In the navigation bar, type
%TEMP%and press Enter.
If necessary, delete files in the Temp directory to free up space.
2. Restore from an automatic backup file (if not using worksharing)
Look for an automatic backup file with the suffix 0.00X.rvt. This file can help you restore your project to the last saved state.
3. Restore from backup files (if using worksharing)
If your project uses worksharing, use the backup file restoration method to recover previous versions of your work.
4. For Speedobo users
- Gather the damaged files along with the five most recent log files.
- Submit a support request through the Speedobo website and ask their technical support team for assistance.
