BIM Technology is currently one of the hottest topics in the construction industry. As the primary platform for implementing this technology, BIM software has gained significant attention. Today, I will introduce you to what BIM software are available and their key advantages.
Revit
Revit allows you to select specific components for clash detection rather than inspecting all components at once, which saves time during collision verification. Its error ID query system is straightforward and clear. If the queried component is outside the current view, the software automatically navigates to it. Collision detection results can be exported in HTML format for easy review. It supports SketchUp’s built-in structural calculation functions for various file types and is particularly effective in managing structural issues. Revit also offers extensive learning resources and is widely recognized in the BIM community.
Navisworks
Navisworks excels in aggregating model files and data, improving interoperability. It features dedicated clash detection tools and supports 5D project planning, which includes time and cost management.
Tekla
Tekla provides a 3D solid model that can be viewed at any stage, ensuring accuracy throughout the project lifecycle. It facilitates progress tracking, planning, operations, and task delivery. The software tracks who modified the 3D model, when, and why. Its 4D tools incorporate time management, allowing users to monitor the design, manufacturing, transportation, and installation status of components via charts. Structural analysis outputs such as stress, reaction forces, displacement, and node or element data are directly visualized in the model without conversion. Analysis reports can be generated at any time.
ArchiCAD
Compatible with macOS, ArchiCAD features an intuitive color rendering tool that requires no specialized knowledge to create realistic visualizations. It also supports direct animation generation. ArchiCAD boasts a rich object database and supports integration with external applications.
Bentley
Approximately 95% of global infrastructure projects are planned, designed, constructed, and maintained using DGN and DWG file formats. Bentley’s MicroStation supports both, allowing for convenient direct editing. MicroStation models can be published to Google Earth, and SketchUp models can be imported directly from Google 3D Warehouse into MicroStation V8 XM Edition. It supports complex building geometries such as curved and mesh surfaces. The software’s historical record feature logs all additions, deletions, and edits, enabling comparison of graphic changes over time. With permission management and digital signatures, it streamlines control over modification rights and editor tracking within the model management process.
That covers the basics of what BIM software are and their advantages. There are many other BIM software options available, but I won’t go into all of them here!
