Navisworks Modeling Steps
Navisworks is a powerful tool that helps construction, engineering, and building teams better control project outcomes. With Navisworks, all relevant project members can review and consolidate design models in detail. This enables users to fully leverage the advantages of the Building Information Modeling (BIM) workflow. Using Navisworks Manage 2015 as an example, the process is illustrated below:
1. Open the file
Launch Navisworks Manage 2015.
2. Import the 3D model file
Import the Revit 3D digital model into Navisworks Manage 2015.
3. Activate schedule and animation functions
To enable scheduling and animation, follow these steps:
(1) Click on the Selection Tree.
(2) Click on the Management Set.
(3) Click on TimeLiner to activate the timer and animation functions.
4. Create the schedule
Arrange tasks in the schedule by:
(1) Selecting the required items in the Selection Tree.
(2) Entering the project name in the Management tab.
(3) Filling in the name, scheduled date, work type, and related information in TimeLiner.
Use TimeLiner to build the schedule, making sure all tasks are properly sequenced. For example, the construction of the bridge foundation and the application of prestressing force to the steel cables should follow the logical order of the actual work. During animation playback, these steps will be displayed sequentially according to the schedule.
Confirm that the scheduling order is correct before proceeding.
5. Convert and create animations
(1) Click on Animator.
(2) Add Animator scenes and cameras to set up your animation environment.
Before creating the 4D animation, make sure to add appropriate scene conditions and camera views in Animator.
6. Add the 3D digital model to the timeline
Follow these steps to integrate the model into the animation timeline:
(1) Use Animator’s camera views.
(2) Click the capture key in Animator to begin recording.
(3) Set the animation timing.
(4) Use the mouse middle wheel to rotate the bridge model as needed.
(5) Click the capture key again to capture the new view.
(6) Complete the animation production.
Add the Revit 3D digital model into the animation sequence accordingly.
7. Combine animation with the timeline and export
Within TimeLiner, click on the simulation settings to merge the animation with the project timeline.
Export the resulting animation as a movie file directly from Navisworks.
8. Finalize the animation
Once exported, your animation is complete and ready for review or presentation.
That concludes the Navisworks modeling steps. We hope this guide helps you navigate the process more efficiently. For further questions about Navisworks modeling, please follow our Navisworks and Model Integration, Roaming, and Visualization Course!
