IES, which stands for Integrated Environmental Solutions, is a UK-based company offering the IES<VE> software suite designed for simulating and analyzing building performance. This software is widely used during the early stages of construction to model lighting, solar energy, and temperature impacts on buildings. Similar to Ecotect, IES<VE> is compatible with Radiance to visually simulate indoor lighting effects. The student version is available for approximately £50.
The IES<VE> software integrates a variety of modular components for comprehensive computational analysis, including:
• ModelIT: A 3D modeling tool that provides the IDM (Integrated Data Model) data collection framework.
• ApacheCal: A tool for calculating heating and cooling loads, based on methodologies developed by CIBSE.
• ApacheSim: The core component of IES<VE>. It performs dynamic load calculations, simulating and analyzing building loads on an hourly basis.
• Apache HVAC: A simulation tool for building air conditioning systems.
• Flucs: A daylighting analysis and design tool, available in two versions: FlucsDL, which performs basic daylight analysis, and FlucsPro for advanced features.
• RadianceIES: A highly respected building lighting simulation component that employs advanced light-tracing technology.
• SunCast: A tool for sunshine and solar radiation analysis.
• CostPlan: Software for initial investment cost analysis.
• LifeStyle: A tool for analyzing running and operational costs.
• Simulex: An evacuation analysis tool that simulates human behavior during normal and emergency evacuations.
• Lisi: An elevator system analysis tool.
• IndusPro: Software for pipeline sizing calculations.
• Pisces: Designed for calculating cold and hot water pipeline dimensions.
• Taps: A tool used to calculate water pipe sizes.
• Field: Software for determining wire sizing requirements.
• MicroFlo: A simulation tool for indoor and outdoor fluid dynamics.
