How to Fix the "Could Not Write to the Internet Cache" Error on Your Computer

Question:

When starting AutoCAD or opening a drawing, you may encounter the following message:

Unable to write to the internet cache on your computer. Please try the following steps to solve the problem. Open Internet Explorer and click Tools > Internet Options. In the General tab, click Delete Temporary Internet Files to delete the files.

Solution:

The primary solution to this error involves clearing the temporary internet files, as indicated in the message. Follow these detailed steps:

1. Click Start and type Internet Options in the search field.

2. In the Internet Properties window, under Browsing history, click the Delete button.

3. Make sure to select at least Temporary Internet Files and Website Files and History, then click Delete.

4. Click OK to complete the deletion and close the Internet Properties window.

Additionally, clearing the contents of your temporary folder can help resolve the issue (see How to delete temporary files in Windows).

If the error persists, try replacing the files AcInetEngineXX.DLL and AcInetEnginepsXX.DLL with versions from another computer where AutoCAD is installed. These files are located in the following folder:

C:Program FilesCommon FilesAutodesk Shared

If no other computer with AutoCAD is available, you can delete these two DLL files and then run the repair option within AutoCAD.

For your reference, here are the versions of AcInetEngine corresponding to different AutoCAD releases:

  • AcInetEngine20 – AutoCAD 2015
  • AcInetEngine19 – AutoCAD 2013/2014
  • AcInetEngine18 – AutoCAD 2010/2011/2012
  • AcInetEngine16 – AutoCAD 2008/2009
