Revit Automatically Evenly Distributes Settings in Project Standards by Default

I will establish project standards and would like to clarify what they are, focusing on the default segmentation settings.

In the Default Segmentation Settings dialog box, you can define the default partition parameters when using the segmentation surface and fixed number equal path tools.

Here’s how to proceed:

1. Select a straight line or shape.

2. Go to the Modify tab and choose to evenly divide the panels.

3. Adjust the following settings for the U-grid, V-grid, and layout placement nodes:

  • Number: The fixed and evenly distributed number of subdivisions.
  • Distance: A fixed distance from the first partition.
  • Maximum Distance: Sets the maximum distance within which partitions are evenly spaced, up to the surface or path boundary.
  • Minimum Distance: Ensures partitions are evenly spaced at a minimum distance until reaching the surface or path range.
  • Measurement Type: Defines how the distance between nodes is measured — either by chord length (straight line between nodes) or segment length (along the path between nodes).

These settings will apply to all future partitions of surfaces and paths until you modify them again. Note that the default segmentation settings can be adjusted either for the current document or saved to the file.
