Solution:
For most versions of AutoCAD 2012 and later (including vertical versions), you can reset the settings by navigating to All Programs > Autodesk > AutoCAD 201x > Reset Settings to Default.
The reset tool will prompt you to back up your current settings before proceeding. Once completed, AutoCAD will automatically restart and begin a secondary installation process.
For AutoCAD 2011 and earlier versions, or versions without a reset utility, please follow these steps:
Note that AutoCAD will be reinstalled during this process.
Please remember that each user account on your system maintains its own AutoCAD settings. Resetting to default values only affects the currently logged-in user account. To reset another account, you must first log into that user profile.
Windows 8:
Press the Windows key to open the Start screen.
Right-click at the bottom of the screen.
Click the down arrow to view all installed applications.
Locate the AutoCAD folder and click on Reset Settings to Default.
Windows 8.1:
Press the Windows key to open the Start screen.
Scroll down and click the down arrow to access all installed applications.
Find the AutoCAD section and select Reset Settings to Default.
Mac OS:
For AutoCAD 2014 for Mac SP1 and later, press and hold the Shift key while launching the application to reset palettes.
For AutoCAD 2014 and earlier versions, you can reset palettes by selecting Reset Palette from the Window menu, or by typing RESETPALETTES in the command line.
To reset the entire application on Mac:
Click Preferences from the AutoCAD menu.
Go to the Application tab.
Click the Reset Application Options button.
Confirm by clicking Reset AutoCAD.
