BIM Software Tips: How to Set Up a License Server on Windows
Follow these steps to configure your license server on a Windows system:
1. Download and Install
Download and install the Network License Manager for Windows.
2. Access LMTools
Open LMTools and navigate to the System Settings tab. Record the license server’s hostname and Ethernet address.
3. Register Your License
Log in to the registration portal to immediately obtain your license.
4. Verify Account Details
Confirm your account information is accurate.
5. Enter Serial Number
Input your serial number. For help locating your Autodesk product’s serial number and product key, search the official Autodesk resources.
6. Provide License Server Information
Enter the license server details as required.
7. Configure LMTools Service
Open LMTools again.
On the Service/License tab, select Use Service for configuration.
Go to the Config Services tab and enter your chosen service name in the Service Name field.
Use the browse buttons to fill in the following fields:
- Lmgrd Path: Browse to
C:Program FilesAutodesk Network License Managerlmgrd.exe - License File: Browse to
C:Program FilesAutodesk Network License Managerlicensesand select the license file (.lic) - Debug Log File: Set the path to
C:Program FilesAutodesk Network License Managerdebug.log
Note: Do not create the debug log file manually in Notepad and rename it. The system will generate the debug.log file automatically.
Make sure both Start Server at Power Up and Use Services checkboxes are selected, then click Save Service.
8. Start the License Server
Navigate to the Start/Stop/Reread tab and click Start Server.
9. Verify Server Status
Go to the Server Status tab and click Perform Status Inquiry. Your license should be displayed as active.
