BIM Software Tips: How to Create Navisworks Log Files
When you encounter unexpected behavior in Navisworks, enabling log files allows you to access detailed information about the operations being performed. This can be invaluable for troubleshooting and understanding issues.
Solution:
Follow these steps to create a Navisworks log file:
- Click Start → Run (or press Windows key + R simultaneously) and enter the following command:
C:Program FilesAutodesk[Navisworks Version, e.g., Navisworks Manage 2015]OptionsEditor.exe - Navigate to the General → Logging section.
- Check the box to Enable Logging.
- Set the Logging Directory to a valid folder with write permissions, for example:
C:Temp - Launch Autodesk Navisworks and reproduce the steps that caused the unexpected behavior.
- A log file with a
*.logextension will be created in the specified logging directory. Review this file for detailed information about the operations performed.
Note: Avoid making other changes to the project file while using advanced options unless you are certain about the consequences of those changes. Always confirm that any modifications align with your expectations before proceeding.
