BIM Software Tips: Revit Shortcut Keys
By default, Revit assigns shortcut keys based on the first two letters of the command’s English name. For example, the Align command uses AL as its shortcut. However, this can be inconvenient since the letters are far apart on the keyboard, and often clicking with the mouse is faster than using the shortcut.
Interestingly, some commands in Revit (Architecture) have two default shortcut keys.
For example, the Copy command can be accessed with either CO or CC. Similarly, Align can be triggered by AL or A (space).
Another example is Place Building, which can use either CM or C (space). I won’t list all of them here, but feel free to explore and try these options yourself.
The advantage of the second shortcut key is that it is usually within easy reach of your left hand without needing to move it much, making it faster and more comfortable to use. Avoid shortcuts like AL that stretch across half the keyboard!
You can also customize your shortcuts by pressing KS to reset them according to your own preferences.
Personally, I mostly use the second default shortcuts in the software, along with a few others:
Trim and Extend: TT
3D View: DD
Set Work Plane: GZ
Stand Up Straight: ST
Curtain Wall Grid: WG
