Revit Drawing Tools Do Not Work with Certain Family Elements

BIM Software Tip: Revit drawing tools may not be compatible with elements from certain families.

Question:

Drawing tools function correctly for some project elements but fail to work properly with others, specifically those belonging to certain families.

Cause:

The issue arises because instances cannot be drawn if their geometric shapes are not inherently present. When geometric shapes are connected, each reference maintains its own copy of the drawable geometry.

Solution:

To resolve this, the geometry must be redefined. The simplest approach is to draw the family objects at the intersections where the series meets the intersecting objects, including any simple objects that are added and later detached. After this, you can delete the temporarily intersecting objects.

Once this is done, you will be able to apply paint to your family’s surface as intended.
