A Step-by-Step Guide to Cutting Steel Beams in Revit

BIM Software Tip: How to Cut Steel Beams in REVIT

When working with steel structures, steel beams do not automatically join together like concrete beams. Drawing them without adjustment can look unattractive.

So, what should you do in this situation? The process is actually quite simple.

First, position the beam that needs to be cut so that it intersects with another beam.

Next, click on the Cut Geometry tool in the modification bar. Select the steel beam you want to cut first, then click on the intersecting beam.

This will cut the steel beam to match the contour of the other beam.

By default, the system applies a 20mm gap at the cut. If you want to remove this gap, select the cut steel beam, go to the instance properties, and under the Structure section, find Cutting Distance at Connection End and set it to 0.
