BIM Software Tip: How Well Do You Know Revit Detail Table Keywords?
The term “Detail Table Keywords” might sound unfamiliar to many, even to experienced Revit users who rarely use this feature. When creating a detailed list, most users typically select the Building Construction Detail List. Inside this list, there’s an often-overlooked feature called “Detail Table Keywords.” So, what exactly are Detail Table Keywords, and what can they do? Let me explain.
Detail Table Keywords allow you to create a new “Keywords” parameter that controls the values of other parameters for building elements by using the keyword detail table column. By selecting a keyword value, you can control all the element parameters associated with that specific keyword.
To set this up, open the New Detail Table dialog by navigating to Details/Quantity. In the Category dropdown, select the Window object category from the list. Next, set the detail table type to Detail Table Keywords and confirm. For the Keyword Name, choose Window Style and click Confirm to open the Detail Table Attributes dialog box.
Step 2:
The system provides several default parameter types to choose from, and you can also create new parameters yourself. These newly created parameters will be available both in the keywords and when adding fields to the detailed table. In other words, the parameters for the detailed table and the detailed table keywords are universal, allowing you to see consistent results later on.
Step 3:
Here is the table we prepared within the keywords of the detailed table.
Step 4:
This is the detailed table we created. The fields highlighted in red on the right have been manually modified, while the other two fields are automatically linked and updated accordingly.
