BIM Software Tip: How to Replace a Revit Type Tee with a Y-Shaped Tee
When drawing air ducts, you may often encounter situations like the one shown below. Connecting branch pipes from two air vents to the main duct requires the correct tee shape. Instead of a standard T-shaped tee, a Y-shaped tee is the appropriate style to use.
Manually adding a Y-shaped tee can be cumbersome. Additionally, when trying to replace a T-shaped tee, you might notice that the loaded Y-shaped tee is not available in the type selector.
Fortunately, you can add the Y-shaped tee to the type selector and perform the replacement directly.
First, select the Y-shaped three-way fitting family for editing.
While in the family editing mode, change the part type in the properties bar from “Y-shaped tee” to “T-shaped tee.” This allows you to select and replace the tee type directly, as illustrated below.
This is the straightforward method to interchange T-shaped and Y-shaped tees in Revit.
