BIM Software Tip: How to Speed Up Importing CAD Drawings into Revit
Many users have experienced slow performance when importing CAD drawings into Revit, especially with large files. Here, I will share a simple method to make the software run more smoothly.
First, go to the View tab and select Visibility/Graphics.
A dialog box will appear, similar to the one shown below.
Under the Imported Categories, you will see all the CAD drawings you have imported. Each drawing has a + icon next to it. Clicking this will display all the layers within that drawing. You can simply uncheck any layers you don’t need to temporarily hide them.
If you are unsure which layers to remove, there is another approach:
Select the drawing you want to edit. A modification tab for that drawing will appear. Click on the rightmost option, the Search icon.
Next, click on the line you want to hide. A dialog box will appear. You can either choose Delete or simply hide it.
Keep in mind that choosing Delete will permanently remove that layer from your imported drawing. On the other hand, selecting Hide in View only hides the layer temporarily. You can always make it visible again by checking it in the visibility dialog box.
