BIM Software Tip: Revit Area Reinforcement Placement
Use standard drawing tools to define the boundaries of a steel mesh system that covers a specific area.
Area reinforcement is ideal for large sections that require reinforcement, such as floor slabs, walls, or foundation slabs.
To start, go to the Structure tab and find the Reinforcement panel, then select Area. Note: This tool is also accessible from the contextual selection tab when valid reinforcement elements are selected.
Next, select the floor slab, wall, or foundation slab where you want to place the area reinforcement.
Then, click on the Modify | Create Reinforcement Boundary tab and navigate to the Draw panel to select the linear steel reinforcement tool.
Click once to set the starting point of the reinforcement boundary sketch.
Continue clicking to select additional points until the boundary forms a closed loop.
The parallel line symbol indicates the edge representing the main reinforcement direction of the steel bars within the area.
To finalize your sketch, go to the Modify | Create Reinforcement Boundary tab and select the Mode panel to enter the complete editing mode.
Once complete, Revit will automatically place reinforcement symbols and markers at the center of the defined region.
Note: Reinforcement elements placed within the area are not immediately visible. To display them, open the Regional Reinforcement attributes palette, then under Graphics, adjust the visibility settings for steel reinforcement elements in the section view. This option is only available when a primary steel reinforcement body exists within the area.
