When discussing the advantages of BIM, everyone may have their own perspectives. The editor of the BIM Building Training Network would like to share their insights and invite further discussion.
(1) Implementation: BIM allows for a comprehensive understanding of a project before construction begins. Investing in BIM enhances data reuse and helps refine accurate design solutions, which might only emerge through a lengthy process. This approach supports timely delivery within budget. By leveraging advanced discovery and search tools, teams can conduct efficient and swift design communication and reviews, ensuring the project progresses smoothly. Accelerating communication and review processes should involve an extended collaborative team beyond just the project designers to further enhance the quality of design proposals.
(2) Communication: BIM facilitates the creation of 3D models that everyone can easily view, explore, and understand. This makes team collaboration more effective by simplifying the communication of design intentions among designers. It also supports discussions and reviews with contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, partners, and clients. By reducing communication time and improving shared understanding, BIM helps ensure projects are completed more efficiently and successfully.
(3) Inspection: Before construction begins, BIM helps identify and resolve potential budget issues and design omissions. Typically, interference is checked within the BIM data modeling environment to detect and address design errors before they become real problems. Using this information, such errors can be effectively eliminated, saving costs and reducing waste.
(4) Simulation: The entire construction process can be simulated in advance, allowing detailed planning for the actual build. BIM helps eliminate unforeseen errors and assigns clear responsibilities to all parties involved. It easily simulates the real construction process, turning the project model into a digital information hub that connects time, cost, and data. This comprehensive overview supports smooth execution and on-time project delivery.
