Tung Yuan Kindergarten is a two-story concrete building situated in the suburban industrial area of Taichung, covering a total construction area of 725 square meters. The project is designed to foster children’s spatial awareness and imagination. By integrating structure, elements, scale, and place seamlessly, the school building encourages an inward reflection on its own architectural essence.

The building is positioned at the northwest corner of the campus, facing a 6-meter-wide road. It forms an almost 45-degree angle with the adjacent buildings. While the overall structure aligns with the road, the recessed entrance canopy is rotated 45 degrees to align with the campus axis, creating a harmonious connection between the building and its surroundings.

The sunshade is supported by a 45-degree angled pillar, creating a second-floor activity terrace. The facade is designed to resemble a traditional house with a double-sloped roof, reflecting the style of nearby buildings and residential roofs. This abstract white facade serves as the community’s first impression of Tung Yuan Kindergarten.

Inside, on the second floor, a massive Y-shaped column supports the double-sloped concrete roof. This column is formed by the intersection of three equally sized pillars, creating a vertical connection with the roof. This forked structure visually demonstrates force transmission and physically supports the heavy roof. Painted bright yellow, these pillars stand out as distinct architectural features within the children’s learning environment.
