This project is situated in southern Taiwan and serves as the entrance pavilion for a hospital, designed with clear functional and efficiency goals. The site faces two contrasting environments: a busy, high-traffic road on one side and a tranquil courtyard on the other. To preserve the courtyard’s privacy while maintaining a transparent and welcoming atmosphere, the design carefully balances openness and seclusion.
Besides managing the flow of visitors entering and exiting, the pavilion also accommodates a multi-purpose waiting area for buses and cars. This space is adaptable for use as a fever screening station during special epidemic situations, a crucial aspect of the design.
Instead of a rigid boundary separating the hospital from the outside, the pavilion creates a continuous, gradual spatial transition. It acts both as a buffer between the hospital campus and the emergency road and as a unique communal space that enhances interaction between patients and medical staff.

Taking into account sun orientation, tree placement, prevailing winds, and the relationships between functional spaces, the design employs L-shaped walls to create a harmonious and open spatial arrangement. Flowing and intimate nooks intersect with indoor functional areas, encouraging both movement and pause.

The pavilion’s simple concrete surfaces act like a canvas, enhancing the effects of natural light and shadow, air flow, and rain. Beyond fulfilling practical needs, the space offers a dynamic and evolving experience that frames the surrounding environment continuously. Visitors can find spots that cater to their physical and emotional comfort based on their individual needs.

The layout is defined by the walls that create a distinct spatial volume. Above this, a triangular horizontal roof extends outward with open lines that blur the boundaries between indoors and outdoors. The strong parallel lines of the roof visually divide the space vertically into two layers. Below, multiple open and inviting entrances emphasize the natural and organic canopy above. Vertical stone elements placed on the roof echo the distant mountain landscape beyond.
