Located in Yuwan Village, Ningshan County, Ankang City, Shaanxi Province, China, this hotel project is nestled within a village settlement rich in natural beauty and ecological preservation. The area serves as a habitat for the crested ibis and boasts terraced fields stacked on a hillside, bordered by a rubble retaining wall. The site faces an open farmland landscape, creating a stunning and serene environment.

The hotel is designed to integrate seamlessly into the village and will be developed in multiple phases. Our primary goal is to minimize ecological impact and blend the design harmoniously with the natural landscape. We employ construction methods that reduce environmental stress and incorporate locally sourced materials, preserving traditional building techniques to complement the village’s character.

We planned a continuous two-story building on an L-shaped site with varying elevation, oriented toward the open farmland. The first floor’s ground level aligns with the field’s elevation, preserving a clear line of sight across the expansive farmland. The exterior walls feature familiar local rubble retaining walls that extend the original stone wall, creating a unified aesthetic.

The second-floor terrace and roofing structure mirror traditional local architecture, featuring rafters made from natural wood. This design ensures the new building seamlessly fits into the existing village fabric.

The overall layout includes a “gap” space between guest rooms serving as an entrance, creating an outdoor courtyard area. This design breaks up the building’s mass, allowing it to harmonize with the scale and style of the surrounding single-story residences. Guests moving from reception to their rooms can enjoy expansive views of the farmland through this “gap” space on the second floor before entering their accommodations.

Additionally, guest rooms and bedrooms that require privacy are situated within enclosed areas surrounded by stone walls and oriented towards the terraced fields. This arrangement allows guests to enjoy a comfortable and private stay while being immersed in the rich natural surroundings.
