The second branch of the sixth kindergarten in Guanshanhu District is situated on Yuntan North Road in Guiyang City. Nestled within a natural ecological environment, the site features significant elevation changes. A series of geometric shapes emerge organically from the sloping terrain characteristic of Guiyang.

Early childhood represents the purest and most innocent phase of life. Children are naturally active, curious, and eager to explore. Their vivid imaginations and creativity blossom through engagement with the world around them. Inspired by these qualities, the design embraces the concept of a “hill playground,” aiming to create a healthy, natural, and unrestricted play environment.

01 Hill
Drawing inspiration from nature and the lively spirit of children, the design integrates the building into the landscape in a “hill” formation. The stacked “boxes” resemble building blocks, mimicking the shapes of children’s favorite toys. This diverse cultural and activity space fosters a strong sense of belonging, allowing children to play and learn freely in a high-quality environment.

The staggered heights of the building blocks form a hill-shaped structure that connects sunny rooftops with teaching areas and outdoor play spaces. The kindergarten transforms into a “hill paradise,” awakening children’s spirits. Activities in the corridors resemble swimming through undulating mountains.

The building features an open and transparent design that seamlessly blends indoor and outdoor spaces. This approach creates a bright, spacious, and comfortable learning environment for children.

02 Garden Stroll
Kindergarten is a place that fosters exploration and play, offering rich activity spaces that spark children’s imagination. The play areas, integrated with the teaching building and complemented by colorful plastic flooring, provide both functionality and ample space for discovery, fully unleashing children’s curiosity and adventurous spirit.

The entire architectural complex extends along the mountain’s direction, resembling a mountain range. It achieves a harmonious connection with the natural surroundings as well as the adjacent architectural complexes, allowing the campus’s natural atmosphere and vitality to flow freely.

The design features a system of horizontal and vertical connections, linking blocks of varying heights through corridors and outdoor staircases. This overlapping spatial arrangement skillfully unites each area, granting both independence and easy accessibility. The result is a seamless, dynamic garden experience with constantly changing scenery.

The space layout thoughtfully engages with nature and natural light, fostering a seamless flow between children’s activities and the surrounding environment.

Though the unit combinations appear simple, they create a strong rhythm and richness that bring delightful surprises. In designing kindergartens, it is essential not only to integrate teaching spaces with the surroundings and natural environment but also to address children’s developmental and psychological needs, crafting an open, imaginative, and vibrant environment that warmly welcomes children.
