This housing project, designed for a married couple and their children, is situated on the edge of a tranquil residential neighborhood. The site was developed during the rapid economic growth period following the 1970 Osaka World Expo and has remained undeveloped until now. Adjacent to a forest on the west side, which is part of an active community park, the home fosters a strong connection with nature throughout.

The site is triangular, with its longest edge facing the forest, and the house is designed as an L-shaped, two-story structure. A central terrace ensures that views of the forest are accessible from every part of the home.

A circular staircase was strategically placed at the center of the house to connect the living and dining areas on the first floor, accommodating the existing site elevation changes. An external staircase on the terrace also links these spaces, providing an alternative route.

The architectural framework features an L-shaped layout with expansive windows and an atrium. The structure begins with a central column supporting a longitudinal keel beam and pillars. To soften the rigid framework, the pillars are clad with smooth, curved boards, forming elegant curved walls. These curves extend beyond the central staircase to include the terrace railings and the walls near the external staircase handrails, enhancing the fluidity of the design.

We refined the design to create natural forms that seamlessly transition between outdoor views as you move through the interior. By using rough textures without shadow gaps on both the interior and exterior walls, the design achieves a comforting atmosphere, even within an urban setting. This approach evokes a sense of integrating medieval stone wall aesthetics into a modern home.

Ultimately, by carefully considering the relationship between greenery, building layout, construction techniques, materials, and the surrounding landscape, the design achieves three-dimensional fluidity and curved walls within the home. This creates a harmonious integration between the house and its environment.
