The development of domestic BIM modeling software is influenced not only by the market environment but also by how enterprises deploy their resources.

1. Weak Ecosystem Foundation Among Domestic Software Providers
Over several decades, foreign software companies have built comprehensive industry solutions. They focus heavily on brand development and actively promote their BIM modeling products. These companies collaborate with hardware manufacturers and other software vendors, encouraging related enterprises to engage in secondary development on their platforms by offering standard data formats and interfaces. This has led to a more complete BIM modeling software ecosystem.
In contrast, domestic BIM software providers, due to their later start and fragmented resources, primarily focus on their flagship products and development models, resulting in a weaker ecosystem foundation. In many niche markets, they hold mid to low positions within the overall value chain.
2. Limited Market Awareness and Responsiveness Among Domestic Developers
Foreign BIM modeling software, after entering the Chinese market, has continuously localized and improved its offerings. These companies actively conduct market research and support secondary development on their platforms to meet rapidly changing market demands. This results in rich functionality, superior performance, and high customer satisfaction.
Conversely, domestic BIM software has not received sufficient attention or support during its development. It has failed to establish differentiated services compared to foreign competitors. This situation not only reduces profit margins for domestic products but also undermines the confidence and commitment of domestic developers to invest in research and development, making it difficult for them to keep pace with foreign software advancements.
3. The Widespread “Heavy Hardware, Light Software” Phenomenon
Currently, there is a clear imbalance between investments in software development and hardware. The industry tends to prioritize hardware investment heavily while underinvesting in software development. This issue is particularly acute for fundamental design modeling software within BIM, which requires significant R&D resources, has a long return cycle, and carries high risk. As a result, many companies find it challenging to sustain ongoing investment in software development.
