The Hanoi Dragon Tower, designed by Dewan Architects+Engineers, was awarded the mixed-use category at the 2022 Global Design and Architectural Design Awards. This iconic tower is set to become a landmark in Vietnam, envisioned as the longest building in the world, spanning 700,000 square meters.
Its design incorporates a variety of functional spaces, including a ministerial hall, conference rooms, and public amenities such as a daycare center, library, supermarket, restaurant, and learning center. Additionally, the project features a reservoir and green platform, both aimed at enhancing the building’s sustainability and accessibility.

The structure consists of two main components. The base is an artificial terrain that supports elevated rectangular office blocks, which together form the shape of a dragon. Inspired by Vietnam’s natural landmark, Fairy Mountain, green terraced fields connect the auxiliary functions to the main square.
The reservoir design draws inspiration from the Sa Pa region’s ancient rice terraces nestled in a deep valley. It serves a functional purpose by controlling floods—certain platforms are intentionally submerged during the rainy season, which also enhances natural ventilation and temperature regulation.
This submerged area creates stepped platforms that extend public spaces into the city, fostering community interaction and urban integration.

Dewan Architects+Engineers aim to create the world’s longest extended building. The elevated “dragon”-shaped strip is designed to be modular, allowing sections to be added or removed to accommodate additional staff.
A street running inside this strip facilitates pedestrian movement and promotes autonomous, sustainable transportation. It connects the subway system to various departments and integrates with the city’s urban transit network.
The dragon’s head forms a tower that serves as a symbolic and ceremonial entrance for ministers, special guests, and dignitaries. As the tallest building in the region, it stands as a prominent landmark for both Hanoi and Vietnam.

This project embodies Vietnam’s rich history and aspirations for the future, with Hanoi at the heart of its culture and economy. The design draws on the power of the Dragon King myth, symbolizing the government and comprehensive civic center, strengthening national identity and reflecting Vietnamese society.
