Although many construction companies are eager to adopt BIM technology, they often lack practical experience in its implementation. So, how can construction firms effectively apply BIM technology?
1) With the rapid advancement of BIM technology in the construction sector, alongside supportive national policies and growing investor interest, decision-makers within construction enterprises must promptly adjust their strategies. They should actively invest in researching and applying BIM technology to stay competitive.
2) BIM technology demands high-performance software and hardware, necessitating considerable investment in upgrading computer systems. While the initial cost of authentic BIM software may be substantial, it offers comprehensive features suitable for commercial use. Additionally, software providers often offer consulting and training services to support enterprises.
3) Operating BIM software requires skilled technical personnel who are not only computer proficient but also possess specialized knowledge in engineering and construction. Given the complexity and volume of work on a typical project, a collaborative team effort is essential. For instance, when China Construction Second Engineering Bureau implemented BIM for the Tianjin Postal Transport Terminal Passenger Transport Building project, they recruited over 40 IT professionals. The project involved seven different units and required the creation of seven distinct models before completion. Thus, nurturing and recruiting talent proficient in BIM is critical for its successful adoption.
4) Currently, many construction firms are still exploring BIM applications and have limited hands-on experience. Some BIM software family libraries do not fully comply with Chinese standards, so construction companies need time to build their own component libraries and establish internal BIM enterprise standards.
