Compared to traditional design methods, BIM combined with VR technology offers advantages such as collaborative workflows and immersive real-time navigation. However, limited user familiarity with the software and a lack of comprehensive applications have hindered the widespread adoption of BIM+VR in architectural design. The main challenges in its development include the following aspects:
(1) Challenges in Creating a Complete Building Information Model
Modern theory defines the model world as a combination of the object model, state model, and processing model. The seamless integration of these three components allows the model to realistically simulate scenes and environments. Currently, however, technology only supports partial construction of object models, preventing a full representation of real-world scenarios.
(2) Limitations in Software Integration
BIM+VR technology primarily serves as a collaborative design platform across multiple disciplines. Despite this, its compatibility with traditional design software remains limited. It struggles to effectively convert file formats commonly used by architects, which slows down the adoption of BIM+VR technology within the construction industry.
(3) High Demands on Hardware and Skilled Professionals
As an emerging construction technology, BIM+VR faces challenges due to a shortage of qualified professionals capable of applying it in practice. Additionally, the technology requires advanced hardware to manage multiple data streams simultaneously, further slowing its development and implementation.
