Editor’s Note: BIM and VR technologies have been increasingly integrated both domestically and internationally, primarily for construction visualization, safety training, and related applications. Let’s explore how these two technologies work together and their impact.

Applications of BIM+VR Technology in China
In China, an increasing number of enterprises are adopting BIM technology. With the advent of the 5G era, faster and more efficient data transmission has significantly accelerated the development of VR technology. Despite the vast scale of China’s construction market, only a limited number of projects currently employ BIM+VR technology. Its application in pipeline construction or mechanical and electrical installation remains particularly rare. Most uses of BIM+VR technology in China focus on construction safety education and subway construction management.
1. Construction Visualization: The China Unicom Hainan Smart Building project leverages BIM+VR technology to maximize visualization. This approach greatly enhances the lightweight representation of the entire construction process and the finished building. Additionally, the project can be accessed via PC or mobile devices, allowing users to experience project color matching and simulate the surrounding environment visually.
2. Construction Safety Education: Research and verification indicate that many companies using BIM+VR technology apply it primarily for worker safety training. By recreating actual construction sites within a virtual environment, workers can experience six major types of safety incidents firsthand. This immersive experience helps them recognize unsafe practices, avoid accidents, raise safety awareness, and significantly improve the effectiveness of safety education.
