The advent of BIM technology has led to the emergence of the BIM engineer profession. The roles and responsibilities of BIM engineers vary depending on their specialization. Below is an overview of the most common types of BIM engineers:

(1) Building BIM Engineer: Responsible for creating and managing building BIM models, establishing a standardized component family library, integrating and optimizing models from various disciplines, and producing 3D visualizations such as perspective views, axonometric drawings, and sectional views of key project elements. They also handle rendering and virtual reality presentations of design schemes, conduct building performance analysis, generate 2D drawings based on BIM models, lead pipeline optimization, and perform business calculations at the model level following fixed operational procedures.
(2) Structural BIM Engineer: Focuses on establishing and managing structural BIM models, integrating them with building models, and laying out structural components through mechanical analysis. This role includes combining and modeling prefabricated components, maintaining component libraries, participating in comprehensive pipeline optimization, coordinating net height control, and conducting business calculations on 2D mapping models derived from BIM models according to fixed procedures.
(3) Water Supply and Drainage BIM Engineer: Develops and manages BIM models for water supply, drainage, and fire protection systems. Responsibilities include optimizing pipeline design, verifying main equipment parameters, establishing and updating the project component library, and producing 2D drawings from BIM models. These drawings include comprehensive pipeline diagrams for professional coordination, primary and secondary structural pipeline hole reservations, water system routing installation diagrams, and detailed lists of pipelines and accessories. Business calculations are performed at the model level following standardized steps.
(4) HVAC BIM Engineer: Manages HVAC BIM models and comprehensively optimizes pipeline design. Duties include verifying main equipment parameters, maintaining the project component library, and generating 2D drawings from BIM models such as comprehensive pipeline diagrams (for multidisciplinary coordination), structural pipeline hole drawings, HVAC routing installation drawings, and detailed lists of pipelines and accessories. Business computational tasks follow fixed operational steps at the model level.

(5) Electrical BIM Engineer: Responsible for creating and managing electrical BIM models with a focus on comprehensive pipeline design optimization. Tasks include verifying main equipment parameters, developing and refining the project component library, and producing 2D drawings derived from BIM models. These drawings cover comprehensive pipeline layouts (for multidisciplinary coordination), structural pipeline hole drawings, HVAC routing installation diagrams, and detailed lists of pipelines and accessories. Business calculations are performed at the model level using fixed operational procedures.
(6) Green Building BIM Engineer: Conducts building performance analyses such as ventilation, lighting, acoustics, thermal environment, and energy consumption simulations. They also prepare detailed analysis reports based on these studies.
(7) Production BIM Engineer: Develops and manages BIM models for prefabricated components. This includes refining the design of molds, lifting points, storage racks, transportation racks, and temporary supports for prefabricated elements. They also simulate and guide the production process of these components.
(8) Operations and Maintenance BIM Engineer: Oversees the integration of BIM models with operation and maintenance data. They define requirements for as-built models during the construction phase to ensure smooth BIM-based operation and maintenance processes.
(9) Calculation BIM Engineer: Supports the entire project lifecycle through calculation work based on BIM models. This role sets BIM model requirements and provides essential data support for business management.
