Company Profile
MAT | Super Architecture Firm is a design and research studio founded by Tang Kangshuo and Zhang Miao in Rotterdam in 2013. We see architecture as a medium that connects us with the city, exploring diverse architectural solutions and new forms of architecture addressing the social concept of “shared use” amid China’s urbanization slowdown.
Our firm employs a typological approach, focusing on themes such as “publicness” and “openness,” as well as the relationship between the “individual” and the “group.” Our work responds to both the current urban context and cultural memory, aiming to create living communities that feel “instant,” “convenient,” and foster a sense of belonging within a dynamic city and its residents.
Through spaces with collective attributes, we inspire connections between people and nurture the continuation of a “collective” spirit. Our designs reflect a microcosm of urban spirit and lay the foundation for future communal living.
Beyond completed projects like youth sharing communities, office parks, and community centers, MAT has recently made significant strides in cultural and educational architecture. Ongoing projects include a kindergarten in Beijing, and we have earned awards and recognition for school designs, including:
- Second prize for Haiyang Road Middle School in Tianfu New Area, Sichuan
- Third place in the design competition for Longgang Xuecun Primary School in Shenzhen
- Candidate for the Longgang Qiulin Campus bid in Shenzhen
- Shortlisted for multiple other primary and secondary school projects
MAT’s work has been exhibited at the 15th, 16th, and 17th Venice Architecture Biennales, Beijing Design Week, Suzhou International Design Week, and the UABB Shenzhen Hong Kong Biennale. Our projects have also been featured in prominent media worldwide and have received numerous international design awards, such as:
- Hong Kong DFA Asia Most Influential Design Award
- German Iconic Iconic Architecture Award for Innovative Architecture
- American Architect MASTERPRIZE Award
- American A+Awards Best Young Firm

Working Environment

Message from HR
Since its inception, MAT has prioritized value-driven design thinking. We believe that when individual growth aligns with team progress, innovative design flourishes as a collective force. For young professionals entering the industry, choosing your first team means embracing the values of the architectural field. We encourage our future colleagues to reflect on this thoughtfully.
Our working atmosphere resembles a school workshop, where design advancement happens through intensive discussions and collaboration. Everyone—from interns to lead architects—actively participates in developing, discussing, and refining projects together.
MAT’s projects cover a broad scale—from small exhibition installations to urban designs spanning tens of thousands of square meters, and even conceptual future urban research without scale limits. Often, the same team works on multiple projects simultaneously. This approach stems not from ambition alone but from our belief that tackling diverse projects sharpens design thinking and fosters innovative solutions that transcend conventional methods.
We invite young professionals with courage and determination to embrace these challenges and grow with us.
