Recently, British Aerospace Systems Corporation (BAE Systems) partnered with the construction giant Baofu Group (Balfour Beatty) to sign a contract worth £82.5 million. Under this agreement, Balfour Beatty Group will undertake a project at the Royal Malham Air Force Base in Norfolk, UK (RAF Marham), for the construction of the UK’s first F-35 Lightning II fighter jet facilities in 2018. This project includes both the fighter jet construction and associated training facilities.

The project officially commenced construction this April. At peak times, the site will employ up to 300 workers. The main expansion plan includes building three new facilities:
- A comprehensive training center
- A logistics operations center
- Aircraft maintenance and precision machining hangars
These three independent construction sites will cover a total area of 25,000 square meters within the base. Baofu Group will utilize advanced construction management techniques throughout the project, including 4D modeling and Building Information Modeling (BIM) digital tools.

“We have developed technologically advanced delivery solutions to ensure that the daily operational capabilities of Malham Air Force Base remain unaffected during construction,” said Dean Banks, Managing Director of Construction Services at Balfour Beatty Group UK.
Over the past six months, Baofu Group has worked closely with British Aerospace Systems, Lockheed Martin (an American aerospace company), the UK Ministry of Defence’s Lightning project team, and RAF Marham. As the preferred construction service provider, Baofu Group secured this contract due to its proven experience in delivering highly complex and technically demanding combat base projects for the UK Ministry of Defence.
