BIM technology offers distinct advantages in data storage. When combined with information collection methods such as QR codes and RFID, it enables efficient data gathering and storage. Below, we explore various information collection technologies and evaluate their applicability.
(1) QR Code Technology
QR code technology provides a cost-effective and convenient method for data collection. The data encoded within the QR code acts as an index, which can be scanned using handheld devices to record and retrieve information. This technology is primarily used for tracking materials and accessing related data.
(2) RFID Technology
RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) systems typically consist of electronic tags, RFID readers, intermediary components, and software platforms. By integrating IFC standards for component coding with RFID technology, ID codes can be efficiently supported, allowing for timely data reading and management.
(3) Visual Measurement Technology
Visual measurement technology encompasses computer-controlled video measurement, standard video measurement, and 3D distance cameras. It operates by capturing image signals from on-site photography, converting these signals into digital data through image processing systems, and then analyzing the digital data to generate actionable information for users.
(4) 3D Laser Scanning
A 3D laser scanner rapidly captures numerous coordinate points to create detailed 3D models. Utilizing laser ranging principles, it collects information such as three-dimensional coordinates, reflectivity, and texture from dense surface points of an object. This data enables quick reconstruction of the object’s 3D model, including various map data like lines, surfaces, and volumes. When applied to quality inspection, 3D laser scanning allows for direct comparison between actual components and models, helping to minimize on-site quality issues.
