Serving as the permanent main venue of the Flower Expo, Fuxing Hall is situated along the central axis of the Flower Expo Park’s expansive floral core. It stands as the heart of the entire park, covering approximately 37,240 square meters of constructed area. The building comprises four independent exhibition halls, showcasing indoor flowers from 35 provinces, municipalities, autonomous regions, as well as Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan during the more than 40-day exhibition period. The plaza in front of the building hosts the Flower Expo’s opening ceremony and serves as an important gathering space. Acting as the backdrop, Fuxing Hall symbolizes the key image and identity of the Flower Expo.

The design embraces traditional Chinese cultural elements reinterpreted in a contemporary New Chinese style, reflecting the spirit of the Chinese nation. The building features a continuous folding sloped roof, vibrantly colored eaves and corridors, and slender red columns. Rather than relying on classical symbols, the design highlights national spirit through color and spatial creativity. By adhering to the essence of Chinese art expressed through freehand brushwork, it cultivates a renewed Chinese identity aligned with modern cultural values.

The roof’s undulating, staggered form draws inspiration from traditional Chinese origami. Designers applied compositional techniques that resemble folding a rectangular piece of soft cardboard, blending virtual and real lines. The roof appears light and spacious, with its metallic surface reflecting sunlight and surroundings, creating a sensation of paper floating atop a sea of flowers.

The suspended ceiling beneath the eaves gallery mimics traditional Chinese Paper Cutting art. It creates a dynamic folding rhythm through the ingenious assembly of multiple triangular panels, producing an enchanting eaves gallery space. The ultra-slim red columns seamlessly connect the ceiling to the roof, giving the impression that the roof is being gently pulled upward rather than supported, resulting in an overall light and uplifting ambiance.

The innovative sustainable building design balances the short-term demands of the 41-day exhibition with the long-term needs of post-event use. The comprehensive approach allows for partial construction of the venue initially, with the exhibition hosted by adjusting equipment layouts accordingly. After the event, construction continues to complete the building’s permanent functions, including a green plant super factory and research and development base, fully embracing sustainable design principles.

Fuxing Pavilion thoughtfully integrates ecological and comfort considerations. The expansive eave corridors provide sheltered walkways in all weather conditions, while the north-south passage connecting the three exhibition halls functions as a public space. This open transitional area enhances natural airflow, while the central skylight allows daylight to penetrate deep into the indoor exhibition halls, supporting the green building philosophy. Notably, daylight filtering through bamboo and wood grilles in the north-south passage creates a soft, forest-like atmosphere for visitors.

Fuxing Pavilion employs a modern interpretation of traditional Chinese elements, utilizing freehand design techniques rooted in Chinese culture. The project aims to achieve harmonious coexistence between architecture and its environment, creating a venue that embodies the essence of “New Chinese Style” for the 10th China Flower Expo.
