In road design, effectively meeting transportation development demands and advancing modernization and digitalization requires the flexible application of BIM technology tailored to design needs. BIM technology digitally represents the functional characteristics of engineering projects and facilitates the modularization and comprehensive processing of various indicators through digital modeling methods.
By utilizing BIM, road design data can be efficiently stored and organized, supporting both model creation and adjustment. Moreover, BIM’s data-driven simulation capabilities enable seamless information sharing and communication, enhancing design efficiency while reducing resource consumption. Throughout the road design process, BIM technology offers indispensable value. It not only fulfills diverse information management needs but also enables comprehensive project control through modeling, optimizing resource allocation and ensuring overall project benefits.

The value of BIM technology in road design can be summarized in three key areas:
First, it enables precise calculations that help reduce engineering costs. By constructing a detailed data model, BIM allows accurate quantity takeoffs during budgeting, improving cost estimation accuracy. Comparing data from similar projects further enhances construction management efficiency, minimizes resource waste, and maximizes project value.
Second, BIM strengthens project management and control. Integrating fundamental project data through BIM supports more informed decision-making. It provides insight into current project costs, helps mitigate engineering risks, and enhances overall project oversight.
Third, BIM supports virtual construction and collaborative management. With 3D visualization models, design teams can simulate construction processes, identify potential issues in road design, prevent resource wastage, and select the best design solutions.
