As technology advances, the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in construction management is becoming increasingly widespread. Internationally, countries such as the United States, Western Europe, and other developed nations have adopted BIM as a national development strategy. They mandate the use of BIM technology in major national construction projects and actively develop various BIM application standards. Similarly, some construction projects in our country have started exploring BIM technology and implementing BIM delivery methods.

The BIM management approach emphasizes full lifecycle management of construction projects, employing virtual construction techniques to oversee the process. BIM models can simulate the entire construction workflow, identify errors, and predict construction costs and timelines.

1. Architectural Model Visualization
Creating a BIM model begins with specialized modeling software that uses architectural drawings as the foundation. A 3D visualization model is built based on the construction plan, allowing project stakeholders to clearly understand the architectural design concepts. Prior to construction, BIM models can simulate critical construction phases to fully illustrate the process through visual technology demonstrations.

2. Pipeline Clash Detection
Engineering projects involve complex pipeline layouts, where water, electrical, and other systems intertwine with structural elements. This complexity increases the risk of collisions between prefabricated components, leading to costly rework. By importing BIM models into specialized software, the layout and installation of pipelines can be simulated under various conditions to predict and prevent potential clashes during construction.

3. Detailed Construction Drawing Design
Using construction drawings to develop BIM models helps visualize key construction nodes, enabling more precise production and management. By generating 3D inspection reports from BIM, drawings can be refined to improve their accuracy, reduce errors, and lower project costs.

4. BIM-Based Construction Management
Traditional construction progress management rarely utilizes 3D models, making it challenging to manage complex projects with multiple sections effectively. BIM-based management leverages laser scanners and digital cameras onsite to collect relevant data, allowing for accurate simulation and control of construction progress.

Some domestic construction management software, such as Guanglian Da Value Software, now integrate BIM technology. This software can create 3D models of construction sites, track construction progress, resource consumption, and site layout. It supports dynamic, integrated management of materials, schedules, equipment, labor, and costs. However, mature systems for reliability evaluation are still lacking.

Using building model data (as shown in Figure 2-8), Guanglian Da software prepares BIM demonstration legends covering total construction duration, planning, process segmentation, and project technology. This foundation allows for Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) decomposition, construction plan development, BIM model integration, and progress management throughout the construction lifecycle.
