Under the starry sky, we once imagined the intertwined emotions of love, hate, and rivalry among humans, gods, and insects within the vast, rotating galaxy.

The Central South Architectural Design Institute has unveiled the design for the esports venue of the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games. Its dynamic silver structures resemble interstellar warships traversing time and space, seamlessly connecting fantasy with reality while blending architecture and environment. Currently in the final stages of construction, the project is expected to be completed in 2022.

The Esports Center is situated in Beijingyuan Ecological Park, at the southern foothills of Gaoting Mountain in Hangzhou. It serves as a key node in the core area of Hangzhou Esports and Entertainment Town. As the final official competition venue confirmed for the Asian Games, this arena will also mark the completion of the Hangzhou Asian Games venue construction.

The steel structure and architectural form of the main venue are perfectly integrated, creating a seamless connection between interior and exterior. The rotating and ascending design, reminiscent of naturally growing organisms in the earth’s landscape, draws visitors upward, offering stunning views of the surrounding lake and mountains.

The sunken plaza and courtyard surrounding the building flood the underground space with natural light and fresh air, creating an inviting area for outdoor exhibitions, social interaction, and relaxation.

The esports arena consists primarily of two main sections, fully equipped to meet the requirements of an A-level Asian Games venue. At its core is a circular competition space, surrounded by a foyer and broadcasting facilities. Additional spaces include VIP areas, storage, and underground facilities catering to referees, coaches, athletes, media, and various equipment needs.

The building’s exterior features anodized aluminum panels and will become the largest curved anodized aluminum panel building in China upon completion. The design adapts to the local climate through the building’s volume, which provides self-shading with prominent eaves. Additionally, an electrochromic glass skylight on the roof automatically adjusts heat radiation based on outdoor temperatures, ensuring a comfortable indoor environment for spectators and achieving a green, three-star standard sports venue.
