The Director of the Engineering Quality and Safety Supervision Department at the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development explained that BIM (Building Information Modeling) technology is a data-driven tool used for engineering design and construction management. The BIM model contains comprehensive project information that can be shared and transmitted throughout the entire project lifecycle—from planning and construction to operation. This enables engineers and technical personnel to accurately understand and efficiently respond to various building data, laying the foundation for collaborative work among design teams, construction entities, and building operation units. BIM plays a vital role in enhancing productivity, reducing costs, and shortening construction timelines.

BIM coordination refers to the horizontal and vertical exchange of information among all parties involved in a construction project using a BIM collaborative platform. This process significantly reduces information distortion. Construction projects typically involve many participants, and traditional blueprints often fail to provide seamless transmission of building data. In contrast, BIM-based collaborative platforms enable integrated management across disciplines.
Through the BIM collaboration platform, designers from various disciplines can work simultaneously on the same model, allowing them to consider the interrelationships between different components. For instance, during pipeline layout, an integrated approach can be implemented by combining architectural and structural models, effectively preventing clashes between equipment pipelines and building structures.
Construction teams can interact and communicate with designers on the BIM platform based on their specific needs, leveraging the visualization capabilities of the modeling software. This facilitates a clearer understanding of design requirements by the construction team and helps eliminate information silos.
Additionally, construction teams can review design drawings in 3D via the BIM platform. Design institutes can also demonstrate their construction methods through animations for complex areas, which helps prevent miscommunication and reduces construction errors.
