As BIM (Building Information Modeling) continues to gain widespread adoption in the construction industry, its concept is constantly evolving. However, there is still no universally accepted definition of BIM, either domestically or internationally. Today, practitioners increasingly recognize that BIM is not merely a collection of software tools but represents an advanced information management technology that surpasses traditional project management methods.

Based on extensive literature reviews, BIM technology has become a widely adopted 3D visualization and digital tool used throughout architectural design, construction, management, and operation phases. It integrates building information with data-driven models to enable seamless information sharing across the entire lifecycle of construction projects. This integration enhances technical personnel’s understanding of project details and provides a collaborative platform for multiple stakeholders. Consequently, BIM significantly improves project management efficiency, reduces costs, and shortens construction timelines.
Modern construction projects are often highly complex, involving diverse information types, numerous specialized disciplines, and strict regulatory requirements. Addressing challenges promptly and optimizing project outcomes has become increasingly difficult. BIM offers flexible solutions to adapt to design changes and modifications in engineering schemes. For example, BIM’s parametric modeling allows automatic updates when parameters change, enabling team members from various disciplines to respond swiftly to design revisions and view real-time results for easy comparison.
Additionally, BIM software can automatically update related information in design and construction drawings in real time, preventing discrepancies between construction staff and designers. This greatly reduces communication costs and misunderstandings. The advanced capabilities of BIM tools allow for tailored applications across different structural components, optimizing complex engineering projects efficiently. By enabling timely adjustments, BIM helps avoid potential safety hazards, enhances project quality and safety, and significantly shortens construction schedules.
