BIM, or Building Information Modeling, is a database created by generating three-dimensional models via computer technology and embedding relevant information within them. The data in a BIM database spans the entire building lifecycle and is continuously updated and refined throughout the construction process. This supports information sharing and collaboration among all stakeholders, ultimately enhancing project quality, reducing costs, and boosting profits. BIM databases offer significant advantages in managing costs and schedules during construction projects.

1) Integrated, comprehensive, and efficient data management. BIM technology enhances the traditional 3D model by adding the 4D (time) and 5D (cost) dimensions, linking the model directly to construction project schedules and budgets. This results in a data-rich, highly responsive 5D BIM model that reflects engineering specifics, creating a complete BIM database. BIM can automatically calculate quantities of materials and components, allowing for detailed summaries across spatial dimensions and component types during construction. Because BIM databases operate at the component level, each building element carries digital information such as material specifications and cost data.
