Platform-based BIM engineering management enables construction professionals and related personnel to achieve a “what you see is what you get” approach. It allows for a comprehensive, detailed, and accurate understanding of engineering projects while supervising and controlling their entire lifecycle. This system integrates design, construction, operation, and maintenance phases, allowing all stakeholders to participate in project management.
Users of such platforms are not constrained by time, location, or industry boundaries, facilitating improved information management in the construction sector. Below is an analysis of some common BIM engineering management platforms currently available in the industry:

(1) E-building Engineering Management Platform
E-building is China’s first BIM engineering management platform, offering seamless integration between cloud servers, local computers, and smartphones. It supports lightweight processing of 3D BIM models and 2D DWG drawings. Project drawings can be archived and uploaded to the cloud, enabling construction simulation and progress tracking. While the platform delivers excellent visualization on smartphones, it faces challenges with high costs.
(2) Collaborative Engineering Management Platform
Developed by the well-known domestic construction firm Guanglianda, this collaborative platform facilitates cross-enterprise cooperation. It archives and manages engineering project data and supports collaboration among project personnel. Additionally, it features built-in team instant messaging (IM) functions. Despite its strong visual information capabilities, this platform also struggles with high costs.
(3) Blue Planet Engineering Management Platform
Blue Planet is another domestic engineering management solution that imports building and infrastructure BIM models into a 5D database. By adding time and project information dimensions to the 3D model, it enables full lifecycle engineering management. However, the platform is limited by a small user base and stability issues.
(4) A360 Engineering Management Platform
A360, developed by Autodesk, targets the construction industry with features based on DWG and BIM formats. It provides cloud-based browsing and engineering information storage. Despite these capabilities, the platform faces challenges such as limited localization, high latency, and a less-than-ideal user experience.
