Autodesk’s AutoCAD is the leading software for 2D drafting in China, serving as the foundation for most civil engineering design tools developed in the country. Additionally, Autodesk’s core BIM modeling software, Revit, is widely adopted within China’s construction industry BIM ecosystem.

For infrastructure projects, Autodesk primarily utilizes Civil 3D, which is built on the AutoCAD platform, alongside the BIM modeling software Revit and the conceptual design and visualization tool Infraworks.
Civil 3D: This professional software specializes in road and subgrade design using AutoCAD’s 3D capabilities for municipal and highway projects. It supports the creation of preliminary bridge layouts based on horizontal and vertical design data. The terrain models and road alignments developed in Civil 3D can then be imported into Revit for detailed structural and reinforcement design through specialized plugins.
Revit: Serving as a professional structural design platform, Revit allows engineers to build extensive libraries of bridge components in a parametric family format. Using route design data from Civil 3D, bridge engineers can perform advanced parametric bridge modeling. These 3D models can be exported to analysis software such as Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis and Midas for further structural assessment and 3D reinforcement design. Additionally, engineers can generate detailed node connections for steel structures or reinforcement details for concrete structures using compatible software tools.
Infraworks: This innovative conceptual design platform enables the creation and analysis of roads, bridges, and tunnels within realistic terrain and environmental contexts. It enhances preliminary conceptual design and structural layout, estimates early project quantities, and facilitates the transfer of conceptual design data to Civil 3D and Revit for detailed development. Furthermore, road models from Civil 3D and bridge models from Revit can be imported back into Infraworks for high-quality visual presentations.
