Compared to enterprise-level BIM technology centers, project-level BIM technology centers are more focused and targeted. Their primary responsibility is to implement the overall BIM technology plan within the specific project context. During the initial stages of BIM adoption, enterprises often select personnel from the project department to establish a temporary project-level BIM technology center. This team mainly coordinates and leads the application of BIM technology during the project execution phase. It is advisable to avoid deviating from regular business operations until BIM technology is mastered proficiently.
In the exploratory phase of project-level BIM application, the team size and roles should be kept as simple as possible. As the implementation progresses, enterprises can gradually expand the project BIM team according to the specific goals of the project. Similar to adopting other new technologies, the ultimate aim is for each business unit member to master the BIM skills relevant to their role and actively contribute throughout the BIM application process.
For enterprises with limited experience in BIM technology, hiring BIM consulting firms in the early project stages is a practical option. These consultants provide tailored advisory services that support both the enterprise’s business development and the detailed execution of the project BIM plan.
Generally, the organizational structure of a project-level BIM technology center is illustrated in Figure 1.

Figure 1. Organizational Structure of Project-Level BIM Center
The project-level BIM technology center is specifically established to execute project plans and requires strong production capabilities along with excellent communication skills within the team. All management and design roles must collaborate effectively. At minimum, the team should be capable of handling the modeling and results presentation stages proficiently.
Table 1 offers recommendations on staffing configurations, responsibilities, and job requirements for personnel within the project-level BIM technology center.
