Project Background

The Sichuan Xianying Aircraft Engine Parts Production Base is situated in Longquanyi District, Chengdu City. This facility specializes in the research and manufacturing of aircraft engine components. Aircraft engines are often regarded as the “heart” of an aircraft and dubbed the “flower of industry” due to their crucial role in determining an aircraft’s performance, reliability, and fuel efficiency. They are also a significant symbol of a nation’s scientific, technological, industrial, and defense capabilities.

How have we been revitalizing traditional architectural culture?

We extracted the spatial layout along with the door and window systems from traditional architecture, interpreting the essence of this heritage in a simplified manner. This approach enhances the building’s cultural charm and architectural quality.

Borrowing from the traditional quadrangle courtyard layout, two courtyards are staggered and connected by elevated walkways along with other park features. This design promotes efficient communication and collaboration among staff while providing multiple courtyard spaces for relaxation.

The Sichuan Basin features a subtropical monsoon climate, where elevated roofs help with natural ventilation and heat dissipation during hot summers. Inspired by traditional local energy-saving architecture, the elevated roofs reduce thermal impact on the top floors by promoting airflow through an air layer. This passive design improves indoor comfort and lowers energy consumption.

The roof design of the quality inspection building mirrors that of the experimental workshop. Combined with the window design, it creates a relaxed and free-flowing façade.
