Introduction
When you think of Xizang (Tibet), the first image that comes to mind is its vibrant colors—much like the iconic Tibetan prayer flags, featuring the blue of the sky, white clouds, fiery red, clear green waters, and golden earth. Throughout history, these colors and cultural elements have influenced Tibetan architecture, clothing, and cuisine, creating a unique cultural identity.
At the highest altitude, the Xizang Autonomous Region Maternity and Children’s Hospital stands as the first truly significant children’s hospital on the Tibetan Plateau.

The design resembles two dancing Hadas, traditional Tibetan ceremonial scarves symbolizing good fortune and blessings. This “dancing Hada” concept is expressed through two wings: the Children’s Comprehensive Building and the Women’s Health Comprehensive Building. The separation reflects the different needs—children are lively and often require care, while mothers benefit from quieter, restful spaces.
Connecting these wings is the colorful central building, serving as a shared medical core. The newly completed hospital integrates advanced international medical concepts with state-of-the-art domestic equipment, all while incorporating distinctive regional cultural features.

Sunlight Optimization
The north and south wings are rotated 22 degrees to maximize natural sunlight exposure. Roof lighting ensures that indoor spaces receive ample daylight, reducing the need for artificial lighting.

Color and Cultural Symbolism
The perforated panels feature staggered colors inspired by the rich diversity of Tibetan culture. These panels act as frames for the outdoor scenery and backdrops indoors.
Within the hall, three primary colors are used: deep blue symbolizes the ocean, green represents the forest, and light blue reflects the sky. The children’s areas are painted green to promote calmness, while the maternity sections use warm orange tones to create a welcoming atmosphere. This thoughtful color scheme extends throughout the hospital’s future projects and document management.

Conclusion
The Xizang Autonomous Region Maternity and Children’s Hospital is a culturally advanced medical facility, bringing fresh vitality and modern healthcare to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
