View Looking Across the Shanhaige Pavilion at the Source
The legendary fairy mountain Penglai has long been a symbol of an otherworldly paradise in ancient imagination. Long Island and Penglai face each other across the sea. This design embraces a human-centered perspective, creating a series of transient scenes experienced as one moves from the Penglai Pavilion, gazing upon the “Immortal Mountain,” through the journey of distant views, boating, and finally, island landing. Ultimately, this forms a scenic cross-sea vista connecting the two pavilions.

Typological Deduction: Synchrony and Diachrony
Using a typological deduction approach, the design of the Long Island Marine Ecological Civilization Exhibition Hall integrates form analogy and reconstruction. It investigates the dynamic relationship between history and the present, objects and places, as well as form and meaning, through the lenses of both diachronic (through time) and synchronic (at a given time) perspectives.

△ Typological Deduction Logic

01 Diachronic Perspective – Morphological Analogy
The design abstracts the prototype’s typological relationships on three levels: shape, plan, and detail. Through analogy, it evolves the topological relationships while preserving key typological characteristics.

△ Analogous Forms of Shape, Plan, and Detail

02 Synchronic Perspective – Formal Reconstruction
By analyzing the environmental texture and typological structure, inspired by island reefs and wave-formed archipelagos, environmental elements are extracted and reassembled. This aims to create an architectural experience that seamlessly blends mountain and sea landscapes.

Integrated Planning, Architecture, and Landscape Design
Using the island coastline as a guiding element, the design explores the interplay between the “erosion” and “passage of time” of both sea and land. This integration embodies not only the unity of site, environment, and design, but also a multidimensional fusion of planning, architecture, and landscape. The layout focuses on the transitional relationship between mountains and sea, refining the silhouette to evoke the harmony of these natural elements.

Ecology and Green Design
This project earned the Green Building Samsung Design Mark certification in November 2020. It expresses two core concepts of contemporary ecological civilization through thoughtful environmental shaping and spatial organization: harmonious coexistence between humans and nature, and the creation of a community with a shared future for humanity.
