This project is situated on a steep slope of Antiparos Island, designed as a holiday residence built on a flat area featuring diverse elevation changes. The building faces east, offering direct views of Palos Island and the nearby Cyclades Islands.

The core concept integrates the building seamlessly into the landscape. By combining various volumes and underground sections, the residences harmonize with the rocky terrain. Each design element gently interacts with the natural topography, emphasizing the terrain’s contours. Throughout the process, three underground villas were uncovered.

The facade design embodies a dual character, referencing both “primitive” and “geometric” architectural languages. The ‘primitive’ aspect is reflected through the use of natural stones, connecting the building to the landscape as an integration tool. Conversely, the “geometric” facade interprets the shapes of existing rocks, translating them subtly into white plaster finishes for the residences. The contrast between plastered surfaces and stone cladding adds a refined scale of intervention, preserving the traditional Cycladic architectural essence.

The layout prioritizes the coexistence of multiple functions across the building. Sleeping areas are distributed on the upper and middle levels, while living spaces occupy the intermediate zone. The swimming pool is strategically positioned on the middle and lower levels, seamlessly integrated with the residential areas.

Outdoor staircases connect the different levels, with streamlined elements and focal points accentuated by adjacent carved pathways. These features guide residents naturally toward the swimming area, enhancing circulation within the complex.

The design focuses on the fluid connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. An indoor atrium, modern sliding glass frames, and carefully chosen materials unify these environments. Natural light filters into the underground interiors through narrow ground-level slits, creating a scenic atmosphere.

The trellis and structural elements are fully integrated into the environment, providing protection against the sun and strong Cycladic winds. This thoughtful spatial design enhances the user’s experience, fully embracing the natural landscape of Antiparos.
