Today, I would like to introduce you to the various software used across different fields within Building Information Modeling (BIM). BIM is a comprehensive integration concept that coordinates the work of multiple stages throughout a building’s lifecycle. Professionals from different disciplines each bring their own expertise and tools. BIM serves as an interconnected platform enabling these specialists to utilize their independent tools, exchange data, and achieve seamless integration.
For example, specialized software is employed in fields such as architecture, structural engineering, mechanical and electrical piping, energy analysis, cost estimation, and facility operation and maintenance. Each of these areas leverages software tailored to fully utilize its unique expertise.
As we can see, every discipline relies on distinct software. Therefore, to realize BIM as a truly integrated approach, it is essential to connect these various applications. You can refer to Table 1 below to review the software commonly used in each field.
