This hillside residence in Puchi City, Japan, designed by Takayuki Suzuki Architecture Studio, is home to a couple and their three children. The house is topped with a large sloping roof that covers the upper portion, effectively blocking westward sunlight and neighbors’ views while spanning multiple floors. Inside, the ceiling is fully draped with lightweight gauze, creating a serene and calming living environment.

While ensuring ample privacy, Takayuki Suzuki Architecture Studio has transformed this two-story wooden home into an open, airy space that harmonizes with nature. The expansive sloping roof offers views of nearby parks and the distant sea, while also framing the surrounding garden trees. This design allows residents to feel connected to the city from every level of the house, according to the studio.

The roof extends all the way to the edge of the road, with the eaves’ height carefully adjusted to control views from the street. The interior opens beyond the road boundary, establishing a connection with the city. The wooden ceiling is covered with thin gauze, enhancing the feeling of lightness and tranquility throughout the home.
