This building is situated on a farm where the owner cultivates the land, which limits the building size. The architect had to accommodate many essential functions within a compact 340 square meter footprint. This constraint inspired the initial design concept. To minimize the building’s footprint, the structure is composed of stacked blocks arranged layer by layer, forming a solid square plan. By extracting and eliminating unnecessary spaces, the design achieves a tightly organized functional layout, maximizing efficient use of circulation areas throughout the building.

The owners are a young couple with three children. The home includes three bedrooms, a living room, dining area, kitchen, and a communal space designed for family activities. To create a compact yet fully functional residence prioritizing children’s long-term use, the design emphasizes practicality and safety. The main block on the first floor is recessed to form the main entrance and an outdoor terrace, embraced by L-shaped lower-level blocks. The living, dining, kitchen, and activity rooms form a large open space enclosed by glass walls, connecting seamlessly to a central terrace featuring medium-sized trees.

For safety, the exterior of each room features minimal glass openings. Underneath the linear staircase, a concealed built-in storage area maximizes space efficiency and directs movement to the upper level, which houses three bedrooms. Two bedrooms are designed for children, and one is the master suite. An L-shaped, interconnected circular corridor surrounds the bedrooms, allowing entry to the master bedroom from the opposite side. This corridor design also opens each bedroom toward the central space with trees, balancing openness with privacy and security. It further blocks views from outside.

The building exterior mainly consists of white walls and glass openings. Its edges are framed with wood-colored aluminum grids, which provide durability and conceal interior spaces. Wooden strips salvaged from the original barn have been repurposed and redesigned as features of the outdoor terrace, roof, main entrance, and staircase.
